HISTORY:

Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.

Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.

If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE

This was about the only piece of equipment left from those heady days, the JVC BR 6400TR - we used it as part of an editing source machine. Built like a battleship (almost 20kg carry weight!) direct drive, nice analog side lit meters and best of all (for us) is that it was a triple standard playback machine, PAL - NTSC -SECAM no conversion between standards but it allowed us to play most client source tapes from the domestic or semi-pro market. Since about 1995 it was then sitting unused, alone, in the dark and looking to be fed with a tape or two but the age of VHS had passed it by and we no longer had any need for it.

Don't remember this machine? You would if you had dropped one on your foot!

Only today, 30 years later, have I removed this from the 'storage vaults' and after careful consideration I have decided to part this machine out. Why? ... The demand for VHS equipment (especially since it isn't SVHS capable) just isn't there any more although the major consideration was the weight, it gets VERY expensive shipping a 20Kg machine around the country or even worse internationally! I am offering just the most basic of parts i.e not the many boards inside but I have salvaged items that may be of interest to a collector of such things OR components that could be repurposed.

This advertisement is for ALMOST all of the front panel buttons, control surfaces and knobs on the BR 6400TR Pro VHS machine. Some additional hardware is included, just in case it is needed in your restoration task.

One button is missing, the POWER ON-OFF button. Why? Unlike all of the other buttons, knobs etc, the power button is secured inside the front panel in a different manner and I could not remove it without total destruction of the switch shaft! As a result, this button (only) is not supplied.

I am offering everything you can see in the photograph so please take a look and see if the button, knob or switch is the item(s) that you need.

So often with this equipment, even with careful studio handling, over time the buttons become "soiled", scratched and even marked (such as markings made to indicate normal levels) and those paddle levers (Olive Green) can break away with careless handling - I have seen one operator who broke one of these on another machine, the switch was not responding so they just kept pushing (with great force) on the shaft up and down up and down, thinking it would "make" the switch work - it didn't and the result was that the shaft gave up the ghost and snapped!

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

Clean

The moulded button assemblies are in great condition, the nylon framework shows no signs of cracking or stress - nice movement. Those metallic Silver coloured buttons or knobs are nylon underneath, with a pseudo metal finish look. Fortunately (unlike consumer equipment I have seen) the Silver "skin" is thick, heavy and durable. This means that most of the buttons have little to no marks on them at all - bright and shiny. A couple though do have very light signs of oxidisation "pitting" but this is not very serious - they still look good.

The Olive Green plastic paddles for the lever switches (3) are all in great shape. Note the special method of fixing the paddle to the switch shaft ... this is not your standard square serated type of shaft.

I have also included some of the hardware such as the lever switch dust protection pads, some of the small metal washers used to secure the nylon button assemblies in place and the metal threaded screws to secure those assemblies.

All of these knobs, buttons, assemblies etc have now been individually packed into sealed, clear plastic packets awaiting the opportunity to bring another 6400 back to full operational condition.
