HISTORY:

Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.

Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.

If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE

This advertisement is for a spare part extracted from the lovely "antique" JVC BR 6400TR VHS workhorse (mid 1980's) - ex our audio production "video sideline" of the same era. To undertake the work we were involved with, we had a number of U Matics, Betacam, Beta and VHS machines (we even had a very early SONY tape machine, something like a reel to reel - very very early video recording technology)

About the only piece of equipment left from those heady days was the JVC BR 6400TR - we used it as part of an editing source machine. Built like a battleship (almost 20kg carry weight!) direct drive, nice analog side lit meters and best of all (for us) is that it was a triple standard playback machine, PAL - NTSC -SECAM no conversion between standards but it allowed us to play most client source tapes from the domestic or semi-pro market. Since about 1995 it was then sitting unused, alone, in the dark and looking to be fed with a tape or two but the age of VHS had passed it by and we no longer had any need for it.

Don't remember this machine? You would if you had dropped one on your foot!

Only today, 30 years later, have I removed this from the 'storage vaults' and after careful consideration I have decided to part this machine out. Why? ... The demand for VHS equipment (especially since it isn't SVHS capable) just isn't there any more although the major consideration was the weight, it gets VERY expensive shipping a 20Kg machine around the country or even worse internationally! I am offering just the most basic of parts i.e not the many boards inside but I have salvaged items that may be of interest to a collector of such things OR components that could be repurposed.

This AC transformer is suitable for either a) an existing BR 6400TR where the transformer had died OR b) inclusion into a custom project not related to the world of VHS tape machines.

Read on for a detailed description of what I am offering ...

JVC - Multistandard VHS Video Machine

SPARE PART ONLY - NOT THE COMPLETE MACHINE

Made in Japan

Model: BR 6400TR

Year of release 1984 (ish)

Component(s) offered:

AC Input Power Transformer with all associated components i.e Power ON-OFF switch, Dual fuse holders, AC line voltage rotary switch and IEC male input socket plus all intact interconnecting wiring.

Power transformer identification:

Manufacturer: Tamradio (Japan)

Part number: PU54183

Technology: Epoxy encased laminated Iron E core, copper band fitted (to reduce interference to sensitive circuits external to the transformer)

AC input is switchable (rotary control) 110-110-220-240V

Power rating of this transformer is 110VA

Secondaries (3 which are all isolated from each other i.e no multi-taps)

1) 21.75V AC (colour coded Red-Red)

2) 15.7V AC (colour coded Yellow-Yellow)

3) 16.9V AC (colour coded Orange-Orange)

All secondary wire gauges are the same, this means that you should expect the transformer to comfortably be capable of 1A from any one winding or all three together (this would be around only 55VA so you could safely increase the current drawn up to a maximum of around 2A per winding)

Megger tested (500V) insulation resistance, Black case to either side of the supply line - infinity resistance

All metalwork is Iron/Steel aluminium, this means the Black case, the removeable transformer base plate (4x screws) and the rear panel plate (line selector etc)

The transformer has 4x holes on the SIDE of the base plate for mounting - some modification may be required depending upon the mounting requirements if using this in some custom made equipment.

DIMENSIONS:

The below information is intended to help someone decide if they can make use of this transformer and the associated components, some dimensions may be missing

Black transformer case: 105mm x 112mm x 75mm height (89mm height if the mounting plate is included in the height)

3.8Kg weight

Side exit from the Black case has the 3x secondary wiring which are terminated with female plugs

The distance between the case and these secondary plugs is 300mm

Underside exit from the Black case has the multiple primary winding connections going out to the AC line voltage selector switch, the dual fuses and the power ON-OFF switch. The switch is DPST, switching both sides of the line input. The action is Push ON (lock) Push OFF (release)

The distance between the case and the AC line voltage switch/dual fuse holder panel plate is 100mm. To the side of this plate is a sturdy 4 pin latched socket into which the mating plug is connected, this then leads out to the power ON-OFF switch some 400mm away (quite long)

No modifications or wiring alterations have been made, exactly as withdrawn from the machine. Plenty of scope to adapt this assembly for a custom project requiring low voltage supply rails.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

All components are undamaged, no wiring has been cut or damaged.

All factory fitted isolation boots and sheathing remains in place and is in great condition

I am finally "done" with this description and I hope that all the information above allows someone to make a judgement about whether this may suit their own needs.

Please don't forget that because of my policy of FREE shipping within Australia for orders over A$75 this would mean I will ship this heavy transformer at no cost, if other items were added to an order which resulted in an order exceeding A$75 cost

USED Exactly as described
