HISTORY:
While my wife collected mainly English, Irish and a few European produced pieces but sometimes there was a departure into the "Oh, that's very pretty" world, no matter where it came from. These were originally bought for our daughter a LONG time ago ... they need to find new homes to provide more child's afternoon tea playtime to someone else.
TAKINO (JAPAN) - Demi teacup & saucer set
Circa early 1980's
Fine China
The china is translucent, meaning that if they are held up to a light source it is very easy to see the shadow of your fingers through the china.
Both pieces have been hand decorated
Demitasse, meaning these are very small, some call them "doll teaset's"
The base china is a bright White and both the teacup and saucer are extensively hand decorated with some "exotic" flowers, we are not familiar with this type of flower. Pinks dominate with Green foliage and Orange through to Purples for the flowers. The decoration is also inside the three legged pedestal teacup.
I have two teasets (teacup and saucer) and there are slight variations between the two, being hand decorated, including the depth of colour - one teaset (I have called it Teaset B) has a deeper, richer colouring.
Gold gilding has been applied to the top rim and both sides of the teacup handle and the saucer has gilding applied only to the scalloped rim.
DIMENSIONS:
Teacup: 64mm mouth x 60mm height
Saucer: 125mm diameter
BACKSTAMP INFORMATION:
There is not a lot of information in the backstamps used, one of the reasons my wife does not collect Japanese china and porcelain - sometimes it can be very difficult to determine where it came from!
Here are two photographs taken from the underside of both the teacup and saucer
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN (Very)
NO chips
NO cracks
NO crazing evident at all (Wet or Dry)
NO discolouration to the White porcelain or the artwork - not even in the central area of the saucer with the depressed circle for the teacup base. Pretty amazing considering a child looked after these but our girl was very careful with these!
NO observable handling wear to the Gold gilding at all
