HISTORY:
Very sad to see yet another very nice old English Garrard turntable become an 'organ donor' but at least this component may have a use to another Garrard enthusiast/restorer out there somewhere!
Ex the Laboratory Series 60 MKII which in a moment of madness lost it's head! Without the headshell and cartridge the turntable was pretty useless to me so it has become an organ donor.
While the turntable was a nicely engineering machine, there were "other issues" such as a broken tone arm rest - dratted plastic rears it's ugly head ...
So, let's get on with describing the spare part I am offering here - remember, I am offering 'organs' from the turntable, the 60 MKII is now a 'non-turntable', it is no more ... ceases to exist because I have carefully and completely dismantled it!
NOTE: Keep in mind that many Garrard turntable parts from this era are interchangeable with other GARRARD models - PLEASE CHECK YOUR SERVICE MANUAL TO ESTABLISH THE SUITABILITY OF THIS PART TO YOUR OWN TURNTABLE.
GARRARD 60 MKII TURNTABLE - Audio Muting Switch
Material: Bakelite, Silver plated spring contacts
This switch is a custom built switch with the electrical functions of double pole, single throw. It is used to mute (short to signal Ground) the two audio channels from the cartridge while the changer system is operating.
The connections to this switch use solder tags.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
I have cleaned up the Silver plated contacts (4) as best I can, space is very limited - being Silver, oxidisation occurs and shows a Yellow and then Black coating on the metal.
Movement of the switch actuator is smooth and trouble-free, as is the spring return.
I have left all of the original wiring intact as this may assist the new owner of this switch when fitting to their turntable.
TESTING:
I made basic DC resistance tests of all contacts, both open and closed. In the closed position I measured extremely low resistance, actually less than my DMM can measure accurately and when the switch(s) are opened, infinity resistance. All looks to be fine.
I have now packed this switch into a sealed clear plastic packet awaiting a new turntable to live in
