HISTORY:

My "world" is 'the arts' and more specifically, music, artwork and hand crafted/decorated chinaware's.

I am not a film enthusiast but an associate has asked me to find new owners for THEIR large collection of photographic and film items ... this is one of those items.

While the world of 8mm/Super 8mm is not my area of expertise, I am doing my best to establish the condition of each item that I am listing.

I tend to be quite detailed in my item descriptions, please READ all the details to decide if this item may interest you.

Now, on with the description ...

WALTON HOME MOVIE - Super 8 Film

Commercial release for the Home Movie market

Catalogue # Not indicated

This film is a compilation of selected scenes from two films, these being

CAPRICORN ONE (1977)

THE BLACK HOLE(1979)

I have "test viewed" the entire reel to check the contents and each film of selected scenes runs for around 8 minutes a piece.

For me, the first film is "the one" of most interest, I vaguely remember this movie from many moons ago ... it's all about conspiracy theories and space travel. Did they really go to the Moon?, and the celebrated fictional manned space travel to Mars which never really happened and the drama behind the scenes when those who knew or suspected the truth need to be silenced. 1970's "fake news"

The second film is a Walt Disney (real characters not an animation) a deep space SciFi drama where all the action begins once the spaceship crew discover a Black Hole and one of their own spacecraft which disappeared 20 years earlier ...

Housed in a heavy plastic, two part case (top fitting over the lower section)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

Film stock and the reel are undamaged

The case and front cover graphics are in good condition. I didn't like the case very much, there is no easy grip area when trying to separate the two halves so it is a bit fiddly to open the case

NO damage to the case i.e no cracks or broken pieces

A very slight/light vinegar odour is coming off the film

NO personal names or other writing on the case or the film reel

TESTING:

Test projector is the ELMO 1200 that I have on hand at the moment.

Film looks to be clean and in good condition, sprocket holes are not damaged.

Due to the labelling on the case, I sat down and ran the entire reel to check the contents and observe the colour and sound.

FILM 1 (CAPRICORN ONE)

The colour of this film has to be one of the best I have seen, yes! there is the full range of the spectrum although I guess a very light Pinkish hue to the picture but overall, the colours displayed impressed me.

The sound is fine, clear and crisp - no trouble following the story line

FILM 2 (THE BLACK HOLE)

Unfortunately I cannot say the same for this film, once again this film has severely degraded Blue dye and the picture is dominated by Pinks and Reds, with plenty of Yellow too! (lots of explosions in this film)

Sound is good, clear and easy to understand.

In my opinion, after this "test viewing", the reel can be thought of as two rather long "trailers" for these movies. I could follow the gist of what was happening in Capricorn One quite easily but The Black Hole scenes in places didn't make a lot of sense to me!

I am very fastidious and careful with these films and I have now packed it back into the original Clear/Green plastic case AND sealed in clear plastic while it waits for a Super 8 film buff to enjoy this snap shot of two Sci-Fi films from the 1970's!
