Paragon China (1919 ~ 1960) was based in Longton, Stoke-On-Kent and produced very high quality fine china with a range of stunning designs, particularly breakfast settings.
Over it's history, the company was awarded a number of Royal warrants and eventually Paragon became part of the Royal Doulton group (1972)
This Royal Paragon teacup dates from 1933+ due to the granting of a Warrant of Royal Appointment by Her Majesty The Queen (Mary) and of course, the added word ROYAL in the backstamp
This teacup is a plain undecorated bright White porcelain, the craftsmanship being in the shape of the teacup with fluted & textured sides.
I have other Paragon chinaware HERE
ROYAL PARAGON - Teacup ONLY
Made in England
Circa period 1933+ (based primarily on the backstamp design although we did not obtain this teacup until the late 1990's
Fine Bone White China
This china is VERY lightweight and 'shell like", it reminds us a lot of our Irish Belleek wares.
Translucent, meaning if held to the light you can easily see your fingers through the china
No decoration of any kind to the teacup
Scalloped top rim
Fluted sides (similar to our Shelley's from this period) with a "cross-hatch" pattern in the china
Standard handle
Mouth of the teacup is 90mm diameter (standard teacup capacity)
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
Black printed backstamp
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
NO cracks
NO fleabites
NO discolouration inside the teacup due to tannin (tea)
NOTES: When viewed at some angles to the ambient light, we can see a very light Yellow to the glaze in some areas. Not as prominent as "Honey glazing" but it sort of looks similar. In 'normal use' it just appears as a bright White though.
While the body externally and internally shows no indications of crazing (wet or dry) - we found some! Right at the base (on the outside) we can see short, tiny little crazing lines. The china around these lines remains the same White colour, no ingress of bacteria!
