ROYAL DOULTON - Child's Mug
Earthernware
Opaque, meaning that if you hold the mug up to a strong light source you cannot see the shadow of your fingers through the ceramic material.
Bunnykins Series
Straight mug (no inturned top rim)

Design: Row Boat (reverse side of the mug is Nipped By A Crab)
One of the over 1000 illustrations by Barbara Vernon (Sister Mary Barbara Bailey) which she produced for Royal Doulton from the mid 1930's until the early 1950's. The primary illustration (Row Boat) is attributed to Barbara Vernon but not actually decorated by her, she had long since stopped working for Royal Doulton to persue teaching.
White/Cream background ceramic
Hybrid decorative techniques have been used, meaning that the artwork has been applied both by hand brush work and possible some transfer. Much of the design is solid colours, with brush strokes being apparently but also there are infilled areas using the dot painting technique.
Measures: 73mm diameter mouth 93mm height
Single broad handle
Weight: 170g
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
This is a closeup photograph from the mug, NOT a cut//paste from somewhere else online (I have seen others do this!)
This backstamp was used during the period 1959~1975 but our personal feeling is that this mug left the works in the 1960's, based on the decorative techniques used and the light crazing that is evident.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
NO cracks
NO flea bites
NO chips
NO handling wear observed to any of the decorative work, all colouring remains bright and vibrant
Yes, crazing is evident although not easily visible. The cracking of the glaze is very light BUT in addition to the crazing it appears that some bacteria has gotten under the glaze as we can see a few (not a lot but some) little "dots" under the glaze.
From a distance these things are not noticeable but looking more closely, the mug has a sort of motley appearance due to the crazing and the little dots.
Not perfect but this mug presents pretty well 65+ years after it's "birth"!
