HISTORY:

Make no mistake, this piece of Royal Albert is one of the "new kids on the block" with it's English heritage being in name only. My wife collects OLD hand decorated chinaware's and at times she is given pieces that someone else feels she would like to have but this is NOT one of those pieces she desires! After a discrete "waiting period" so as not to offend the giver of this gift, she now wants it out the door ...

If the Royal Albert history, quality and look of their older products is of primary interest then this very contemporary Creamer Jug just does not fit that category. Old Royal Albert is known for it's lightness, translucency and high quality - often using Roses in their decorations, the most famous being Old Country Rose released in 1962. One final distinction of the older Royal Albert products was the fact they were made in England!

This "modern" Royal Albert is genuine Albert (parent company Royal Doulton) product but it was not produced in England as Royal Doulton (the owner of the Royal Albert company since 1972) moved all Royal Albert production offshore to Asia in 2002.

Oh yes there is a mention of England in the backstamp (ENGLAND 1904) but that is only a reference to the year when the Royal Albert tradename came into being, there is no sign of the text MADE IN ENGLAND

While the Creamer Jug is presented under the Royal Albert name, my wife really didn't like it much compared to her much older "Albert's collection". The roses design used on this jug is "clunky", the jug is quite heavy and only barely translucent. Sadly she often would comment that it looks more like a Maxwell product than something from Royal Albert.

So with all that in mind, if you are an avid Albert collector then this probably would be of no interest to you but if however you just wanted to have the "Royal Albert" name amongst your tableware, then this creamer jug would be fine.
