HISTORY:

Make no mistake, this piece of Royal Albert is one of the "new kids on the block". My wife collects OLD (early 20th Century) hand decorated chinaware's and at times she is given pieces that someone else feels she would like to have but this is NOT one of those pieces she desires! Of course, high quality and a lovely pattern with embossing but after a discrete "waiting period", so as not to offend the giver of this gift, she now wants it out the door ...

If the Royal Albert history, quality and look of their older products is of primary interest then this contemporary (well, 40 years old is contemporary for us!) just does not fit that category. Old Royal Albert is known for it's lightness, translucency and high quality - often using flowers in their decorations, the most famous being Old Country Rose released in 1962. One final distinction of the older (pre-2002) Royal Albert products was the fact they were made in England!

This "modern" Royal Albert is genuine Albert product and as this piece predates the move of all Royal Albert production offshore in 2002, it is genuine Made In England ceramic!

ROYAL ALBERT - Teacup ONLY

Actually, truth be known, my wife considers this to be a "quasi teacup" as it is shape that fuses a "standard" teacup with a coffee cup.

Made in England

Series: For All Seasons

Design: PARKLAND

Bone China

Translucent, which means if held to the light you can see the shadow of your fingers through the china

The transferware decoration comprises two groupings of "meadow like" Pink & Yellow flowers placed on opposite sides of the teacup, some trumpets and others appearing more like Primroses, one decoration being much larger than the other and not exactly of the same design. The colouring is distinctive in that it is very "soft and gentle", pale light colouring. This tableware will just sit on the outdoor afternoon tea table very sedately and not scream at you "Look at me! Look at me!"

Nice!

In addition to the transfer pattern, the rim is embossed on the outside only (not inside the teacup) and looks to be outlines of trees but with star shapes added instead of foliage.

Finished off with Gold gilding which has been applied to the the smooth top rim, on both sides of the handle (upper portion only - very sensible design when being handled a lot) and a single line around the base area.
