HISTORY:
My wife "collects" but is changing which type of china/porcelain she wants (now pre-1900's) and she has come to realise that many of our treasured items need to "leave home" to find a new, caring home to live in.
DLAT RATING: 9.5/10 (Darling Look At This!)
Dainty, delicate, very pleasing shape and 'pleasing to the eye' and of course, it's Royal Albert!
ROYAL ALBERT - Teacup, Saucer & Side Plate (Offered separately or as a trio if all pieces still remain available)
Made In England
Price indicated is for EACH PIECE, however if all three pieces to create a trio are selected then an automatic discount does apply in the checkout
Circa 1970's
Fine Bone China
Pattern: Winsome
Hand decorated (we believe as when you look extremely closely at the artwork, there are no patterns of dots or hashes which are dead giveaways pointing towards transferware decoration. The decoration does appear to be solid brush strokes and although a repeating pattern of decoration, each rose/foliage has slight differences to any other)
Background colour is brilliant White
Design: These pieces are dominated by small Pink & Red rose buds contrasting with a small long stemmed Blue flower which look similar to Bluebells, all with foliage. This decoration is right around the piece and in the case of the teacup, one decorative spray of roses has been placed inside the teacup.
Shape: The teacup has a distinctive bulbous base and a hi-back handle (Queen Anne style)
Gold gilding has been applied to all top or edge rims, and in the case of the teacup down the back of the handle (and partially at the top of the handle sides) and a double Gold band around the base of the teacup
An interesting piece of trivia about this trio ... unlike most other English trio's, this one is much more "symmetrical" meaning that the side or cake plate is actually roughly the same diameter as the saucer. This just makes the appearance of the trio more "neat & tidy" and helps when finding a spot in the crowded china cabinet(s) to place it.
Translucent (you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china when held up to a strong light source)
Circa period of 1941 ~ 1998 (based on the backstamp design, specially the words BONE CHINA) but we know for sure these pieces all date from the late 1970's as this is when we purchased them!
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
Makers mark printed on the base of the teacup (under the glaze)
Makers mark printed on the base of the saucer (under the glaze
Makers mark printed on the base of the side plate (under the glaze)
Green markings off to the side of the backstamp are the decorators markings
DIMENSIONS:
TEACUP: 88mm mouth x 72mm height
SAUCER: 140mm diameter
SIDE PLATE: 159mm diameter
CONDITION:
This first section of the condition report is universal to all three pieces, any difference or flaws are noted below this section
CLEAN
NO cracks
NO chips
NO crazing
NO discolouration observed to the brilliant White base porcelain, particularly inside the teacup where no tannin or other staining has occurred.
NO damage or wear is apparent to the intricate skilfully created decorations
NO observable wear at all to the Gold gilding on all pieces, not even the most handled area - the teacup handle.
SIDE PLATE:
I can see one fleabite on the underside, it is not discoloured (no bacteria has made itself at home in the ceramic) and it not easy to see, running the finger over the area will reveal it though.
SAUCER & TEACUP
I cannot see any flaws or imperfections with either of these pieces that require a mention
