ITEM HISTORY

Those who like to browse the extensive collection of my wife's chinaware may say "OMG!" as there are a lot of beautiful pieces to behold and gaze at!

The secret is this ... my wife collects MOST of her chinaware for personal satisfaction but some pieces were used on a "hire or rental" basis as prop's for the advertising and entertainment industry. A sideline if you like and even to this day she has close contact with drama production companies supplying "special props" for the latest production although she is "winding down" these activities now as she wants to focus on very old hand crafted china and porcelain from the 19th Century.

This is one of those items, I am told it has been "on outings" many times in past and could well be seen in film or television dramas, usually "period pieces"

You can find the other pieces of this patterned trio HERE

For this reason (being out of the house), some of these items have distinct flaws - particularly crazing (cracking of the glazing) which is caused by environment temperature changes (hot day - cold night)

It is very important to read the description of this item, any flaws will be truthfully and sincerely declared!

R H & S L Plant

Tuscan was the tradename used by the pottery, RH & SL Plant located at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The backstamp began to be used from 1947 onwards although my wife believes these items of Tuscan date from the 1950's ~ 1960's - many English works were adjusting their product range after the severe restrictions placed on them during "THE War" and the general design indicates a product produced a little later than just after the war. In 1966, Wedgwood gained control of the R H & S L Plant product, renaming the range to Royal Tuscan.

DLAT Rating: 9/10 (Darling, Look At This!)

TUSCAN - Teacup (1) ONLY

Fine Bone China

Circa 1947+ (based on the backstamp design) we feel that the period 1950's ~ 1960's is most likely for this teacup to have left the works though

Hand decorated (although there is no artist's markings, the matching side plate does have an artist mark) I have examined the artwork very closely and this is definitely not transferware.

Translucent bright White fine china, meaning that when it is held up to a strong light source you can easily see the shadow of your hand through the chinaware

Scalloped rim

We are unaware of this pattern/design name, but as you can see, there are Red/Pink, Yellow and Blue roses on what appears to be a trellis. This pattern occurs twice on the teacup, on opposite sides.

Gold gilding has been hand applied (Gilder's mark on the underside) around the top gently scalloped rim, down both sides and the back of the handle and a single ring around the base.

Backstamp is (from the actual teacup, not a copy & paste of someone else's teacup) ...

DIMENSIONS:

83mm diameter mouth x 70mm height

Standard shaped handle

Weight: 100g

CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

Very Good condition

NO cracks

NO fleabites

NO crazing observed

NO tannin or other liquid staining to the inside of the teacup

NO discolouration - in fact the brilliant White base colouring is soooo White we were surprised and had to double check the age of this piece, it is however definitely from the time period indicated.

Gold gilding is in good condition although not perfect, meaning that in very tiny areas of the rim gilding I can see an unevenness to the gilding, not sure if this is handling wear or as it left the works all those years ago.

USED Exactly as described
