Shore & Coggins (John Shore & William Coggins) were located in Longton

Queen Anne was one of the trade names they used

These side plates were part of our duet set, dating from the 1960's

DLAT Rating: 10/10 (Darling, Look At This!)

These "Duet" side plates were also described as harlequin, meaning that each side plate has a distinctive pale coloured banding extending from the central Duet artwork to the outer scalloped rim. I have created this advertisement in a way that means you can select the colour(s) that you may want.

The matching teacup also has this pale coloured wash inside the teacup but the saucer DOES NOT. We have been unable to find the saucers (so far) so they are not listed at this time.

QUEEN ANNE - Side Plate (1) ONLY

Circa 1960's, based on the backstamp design (The Q and A in the words Queen Anne is distinctly stylised differently to the 1950's products)

Pattern name: Duet (Harlequin Series)

Translucent fine china, meaning that when it is held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your hand through the chinaware

Whether these side plates have been hand decorated is an open question. Some of the side plates (and the teacups) have both the Gold gilder and artist's marks, a couple with just the gilder's mark and the remaining side plates with no gilder or artist marks. The artwork does look to be transferware and by the 1960's, many of the works had moved away from hand decoration.

The design, as the name suggests, is principally two large rose buds with one being White and the other Red. Surrounded by some foliage and small Blue flowers. The artwork is central to the plate and quite large.

The outside area surrounding the artwork and the underside of the plate is a bright, clean White.

Gold gilding has been heavily applied to the top scalloped rim only.

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

COSMETIC CONDITION:

This is the REALLY IMPORTANT part!

CLEAN

NO cracks at all

NO chips at all

NO discolouration or wear to the central artwork decoration

NO discolouration to the bright White porcelain

NO discolouration or uneven colouring to the pale banding

NO wear or scratching observed to the scalloped rim Gold gilding

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

These notes are specific to each colour that we have available ... while any flaw is mentioned below, we are informing you of EVERY LITTLE MARK we could see. Most would not have any concerns about these.

Lemon Yellow - no topside damage at all, 2 small fleabites underside

Aqua (Pale Blue/Green) - no topside damage at all, 3 small fleabites underside

Pale Blue - no topside damage at all, 3 small fleabites underside

Pale Green - no topside damage at all, 2 small fleabites underside

Pale Pink - no topside damage at all, 1 small fleabite underside

Pale Lilac - no topside damage at all, 2 small fleabites underside

Comments: Yes every side plate has these tiny fleabites but none look to be of concern. Amazing condition "topside", even in the centre where the saucer would normally sit when being stored and the total lack of knife marks from slicing a piece of cake! Very nice.
