Shore & Coggins (John Shore & William Coggins) were located in Longton

Queen Anne was one of the trade names they used

This is an example of 'fancy' Queen Anne from the 1950's, conservatively dressed to impress!

DLAT Rating: 10/10 (Darling, Look At This!)

This is part of our "fancy" trio's collection and we have decided that some of which needs to find new, caring homes to live in! This Queen Anne trio is being made available as separate items (or all together if someone doesn't previously purchase part of the trio)

To see the other QUEEN ANNE 4719 pieces which may still be available, take a look HERE

QUEEN ANNE - Side Plate (1) ONLY

Circa 1950's, based on the backstamp design.

Registered pattern: 4719

Pattern name: Unknown.

Translucent fine china, meaning that when it is held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your hand through the chinaware

Hand decorated by both the artist and gilder, although their marks have only been placed on the underside of the saucer which is advertised separately.

The design is very 'regal' in appearance, using a base light Yellow (similar to a Custard colour!) with extensive Gold decoration and a central spray of Red & Blue flowers with foliage.

Absolutely this is a 'show piece' for a special fancy tea occasion, unlike some of the other fancy trio's that we have, this one is more "mature and sedate" It has never failed to impress our visitors in the past when bought out for that "special" afternoon get together.

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

We have the trio of this pattern 4719 but this side plate has a slightly different backstamp and according to English chinaware backstamp dating experts, this backstamp was used by the Longton works just a year or two after the other items we have, still in the early 1950's though. This makes us think that a long time ago, the original side plate was replaced with this one. Another much more subtle difference is the base light Yellow on this side plate is just every so slightly lighter than the other two pieces (teacup & saucer), again supporting the idea that this side plate was actually a replacement from the same period but not one of the original pieces.

Large graphic featuring a Crown on the top, Green wreaths to each side, light yellow infill with the words Queen Anne in a light Brown

COSMETIC CONDITION:

This is the REALLY IMPORTANT part! It is no good being a Show Piece if it hasn't had love and caring over the years. This side plate does have a very slight flaw ... please read on

CLEAN

NO cracks at all

NO chips at all

NO discolouration or wear to the artwork decoration

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

NO wear or scratching to the very intricate Gold gilding and design. Quite special because there is so much Gold coverage that often this is the point that shows wear most often (where the fingers hold the side plate) but this side plate has no handling wear at all evident.

NO crazing observed, dry and wet checked

Flaw alert! I noticed that underneath the side plate there is two very small fleabites (no discolouration) which can be felt with the finger. So, the underside of the side plate is NOT perfect but very close to it!
