English author Margery Sharp wrote this story in 1937, originally titled The Nutmeg Tree and then released it in Berlin 1939.
In short, this is a very character driven story...set in 1930s France, Margery Sharp’s witty, warm-hearted novel tells the story of a free-spirited mother who is reunited with her very "prim and proper" daughter after sixteen years apart, when her daughter asks her to "inspect" her fiancé. This is a very human character style of story, full of serious introspection amid the subtle 1930's humour, some of the slang used can be a challenge. The characters are soul searching, learning and finally acknowledging the truth about themselves.
Adapted into a Broadway play called The Forbidden Street
This book is in fair visual condition, physically it is fine but showing its age of 70 years!
No-one here is fluent in German so we have placed the book in sealed plastic and stored in a dark area in the reading room, to reduce any further damage due to light.
Yes, "she" is getting old, tired looking but she has a great story to tell ...
