HISTORY OF THIS CAMERA

My professional and private background is all about electronics, audio and 'The Arts' but NOT really photography! My photographs on this website will atest to that!

Over the years, I seem to have gathered together a bunch of strange camera's (some are odd looking) and instead of sitting in a plastic box under the house (which had the lid on! although I know this is not the ideal environment for a camera!) I am seeking someone who may find a use for this camera (display, spare parts or heaven's forbid - use it!)

I am not a photography enthusiast so this camera is offered as-is (described to the best of my abilities)

In our professional capacity we worked with some broadcast Betacam video gear and this domestic market very early digital camera seems to have come into my hands as well - I really have very little interest in old camera's, film or digital.

Actually I have a number of camera's (still and video) I am sorting out and testing (if I can) ... look for more camera's here on my website.

I offer the description below as best I can but this camera MAY have a fault(s) or the lens system could be dirty (I am not prepared or knowledgeable enough to evaluate the optics)

I am not even sure anyone is interested in old film camera's (or old digital for that matter) but I am very big on sustainability and if this fits into someone's museum of photography or even spare parts for other KODAK camera's this would please me greatly.

PLEASE read the description completely and decide if this camera may be of interest to you.

There are no returns or refunds offered, this is second hand and offered 'as-is"

KODAK Camera

Technology: Digital

Model: DC210

Released to the market around 1997

Made in Japan (metallic label underneath)

NO carry case could be found

NO lens cap is present - I wouldn't know if these even had one but the lens is 'fully exposed' to the environment without one.

I looked through the viewfinder and I didn't notice any issues with 'fog' or some sort of growth inside the lens system but I suspect I am not actually looking through the lens proper, just the viewfinder system.

Weight: 350g (no batteries fitted)

It is quite large, not like the later 'compact' camera's - actually very similar in size to a 'point & shoot' 35mm film camera

Dimensions: 130mm wide x 50mm front to back and 85mm high

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Clean

NO camera body damage at all, barely any 'scuff' marks or scratches either

Rear little screen is not damaged and 'looks' fine and the same goes for a tiny little screen on the top of the camera.

Looked closely at the front (uncovered) lens and I cannot see anything that doesn't look right, no spots or fogginess observed here.

NO issues noticed with the 'user controls' such as rotary knob at the rear and all the port covers (a rubber-like material) are fine

Hand strap is in good condition and clean

Inside the battery compartment I can only see shiny contacts and no signs of any problems.

TESTING:

Batteries are NOT supplied but I found here some AA rechargeables (the camera uses 4x AA batteries)

Inserted them (clear diagram) and turned it on

A Red light at the back and the small rear colour screen lights up and asks me about setting the time, I cancelled that.

Next it wants a memory card, it seems to use a CF card and after scrounging around I found two here, a 2Gb and a 4Gb. First I tried the 4Gb and it tried to format the card but said it couldn't complete - I guess it is too big. Next I tried the 2Gb card and bingo! It completes and is ready to go. The Red light now changes to Green.

I couldn't preview on that same LCD screen, I guess that is normal but I took a few photographs (the flash operated automatically) and after the shot, it shows on that little screen.

Picture is 'nice' nothing startling but then again I was happy to see it come to life at least! There were no funny lines or bits of the photograph missing and the image contrast and colour looked fine, considering the capabilities of such a camera.

The other very small screen on top seems to show things like battery condition etc

I didn't try to download the photographs I took onto a PC (NO cables supplied)

I then went into the Preferences options and every step worked as it should - happy with that.

During all of this I had NO issues with any of the buttons or knobs, they all did what I would have expected.

If I was to make just one comment, when zooming in and out, the lens moves in and out fine (smoothly) but I can hear the little gears, not terribly noisy but it makes a definite 'whirring' noise while doing the zoom thing.

So, in summary, this really old digital camera seems to work fine - not bad Kodak after all these years!

Just to make it clear, I am not giving away my batteries or the CF card, you will need to provide those yourself!

Since checking out the camera I have now sealed it in plastic, to at least keep it in the present condition and it is our spare room, which has a controlled temperature environment so the overall condition should not deteriote further.
