SIZE DOESN'T MATTER!
Whenever possible, I ship using prepaid satchels for smaller orders. This means the buyer gets the maximum "bang for their buck" with regard to the cost of shipping.
For example, CD's
If you buy just one CD, the minimum cost charged by Australia Post is currently $10.60 to anywhere in Australia (it does not matter where it is being sent to WITHIN Australia)
However, add a couple more CD's and the shipping cost stays exactly the same. In fact I can often add up to 5 CD's for that cost, it depends upon the CD packaging e.g "fat box" multi-CD packs use up more space or Slim J card cases take less space.
For electronic components this is even more relevant, I can send just ONE resistor (don't laugh! some do only want one resistor in their order) and the shipping cost is currently $10.60 minimum. However, load up the order with some capacitors, transistors etc and the shipping cost will be exactly the same, up to a weight limit of 5kg (which is a LOT of electronic components)
I would strongly encourage anyone within Australia who is curious about "how much would that cost to ship to me?" to please visit the checkout area and "play around" with various items being added or taken away and seeing what the effect is on the shipping costs.
Many clients are wasting their hard earned money but having an item sent of very low cost, with the shipping costs being up to 3x the item value - just add one or two more items and the OVERALL shipping cost can drop substantially.
