Chinese cloisonné is well known and can be highly prized, but make no mistake - this ashtray is NOT cloisonné although at a glance it looks "similar"
The decoration on this ashtray is gold coloured paint extensively used throughout the flowers/foliage design. True cloisonné is buried into the porcelain and is not a paint but flakes of precious metals.
1980's Porcelain Ashtray
Most likely produced in China (no identification markings at all)
Base porcelain is bright white
Decoration has been hand produced with extensive use of faux cloisonné - at a glance it looks like the real deal but looking closely you can see the metal is painted on, not embedded into the porcelain.
Decoration is a blue(ish) coloured hand painting of flowers and foliage with the borders being the faux cloisonné. This gives a certain attraction to the ashtray but the colouring is overall quite dull looking. There is no way you could describe this decoration as uplifting or exciting!
Gold gilding applied (not so carefully!) to the top rim
Diameter: 110mm
Base has no markings at all
Never been used
NO smells
NO cracks
NO chips
NO discolouration
Nice ashtray for those who collect such things - or just use it!
