Royal Bayreuth began producing fine porcelain in the village of Tettau, Bavaria from 1794 and they are still operating to the present day, a very long running pottery near the previous East/West East German border.
We date this beautiful demi coffee set from the period 1950's - 1960's, based on the coloured back stamp design, the word Germany being used (not Bavaria) and no US Zone markings that were used after WWII (1945+), these zone marks were used between 1946 - 1949. Based on these things we have made an educated assumption that this coffee set was made after 1949 and perhaps into the 1950's period.
Although Royal Bayreuth produced an extensive range of artistic and very colourful products over the years, this demi set is a very conservative design, subdued but with 'class'
Royal Bayreuth creative designs are extremely collectable and now very valueable (the Santa range from the early 20th century can easily fetch $6000+ each!)
We have some of these pieces (not Santa's though), they are absolutely gorgeous! HERE is a link to some information about Royal Bayreuth
I can't help myself! Here is a picture of one gorgeous Royal Bayreuth piece
I am not offering this beautiful lemon teapot but just look at the beautiful craftsmanship - Wow!
ROYAL BAYREUTH - Coffee Set For Six People
DLAT Rating: 10/10 (Darling Look At This rating: Superbo!)
Coffee setting for six persons
Demitasse sizing, commonly used in 'Continental' households.
Porcelain
Bright white hard paste base material
Highly Translucent - you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the porcelain
Design colouring is a light tan, funny enough it is similar to a white coffee colour!
Extensive use of gold gilding on all pieces, ranging from light to heavy application (pot handle for example is heavily gilded)
Very delicate 'feel' and light to handle
The coffee set simply 'oozes' quality and note the top lid handle, not a solid piece of porcelain but in fact 'ribbons' of porcelain
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This is the part that matters, it might look good but is it damaged?
NO! NO! NO! (well almost no, please read below)
The following comments apply to ALL PIECES, EACH ONE but read my special note at the end.
NO cracks ***
NO chips
NO discolouration
NO wear/scratches/other damage to the gold gilding - not even on the cup or coffee pot handles.
NO crazing
***SPECIAL NOTE relating to the very delicate lid
Although it is practically invisible to the eye from the top, I 'think' there is a crack in the lid. It can only be noticed when light reflects from the highly reflective porcelain on the top. Looking underneath I can see the same crack although it is so so very light.
This actually doesn't surprise me, the handle on the lid is so very delicate.
Please handle every single piece of this demitasse coffee set with great care, don't abuse it! (Nobody likes to be abused) and pay special attention to that coffee pot lid!
Since removing this set from our chinaware display cabinet, all of these pieces have been safely put away and prepared for shipping - I take EXTREME care with all of the delicate items I send via Post or Couriers - I don't want any broken hearts!
