WOODS - Tableware
Soup Tureen
Circa 1930's
Cream background colouring
Light brown painted line near the bowl base
The same light brown decoration style is used on the bowl lip for the leaf decoration and around the lime green border.
The lid on the other hand has similar lines but these are Gold gilding, not painted.
We actually suspect the lid was NOT originally matched with the tureen - although it does fit perfectly and both the lid and bowl do look well together, they do not have quite the same style of decoration.
There is no "cut out" in the lid for a soup ladle
MEASUREMENTS:
21cm (8 inches) inside bowl diameter - 6.5cm (2.5 inches) deep
COSMETIC CONDITION:
BOWL:
NO cracks
A couple of very small fleabites to the underneath of the bowl
A couple of very light useage marks to the inside of the bowl
Extremely slight/light crazing in just one area of the bowl (inside) only noticeable because we use "wet testing" to check for crazing or general glaze degradation. To the naked eye, it is unlikely this crazing could be seen.
LID:
NO cracks
NO crazing observed at all
3 small marks to the underside of the lid and one area with light discolouration - these "marks" are all on the underneath of the lid.

Printed on the base:
WOODS IVORY WARE (script)
(Crown graphic)
ENGLAND
5X 2898
Wood's produced mainly teaware, tableware, fancy earthenware and hotelware and "Ivory Ware" was one of the trade names they used for their Ivorine China products.
This pottery mark has been positively identified as in use by Woods circa 1930's
Please note though, we strongly suspect the lid is a "ring-in" and probably did not originally belong to this tureen bowl, although the match is very good in any case.
