Tuscan Works - Longton England
Fine Porcelain china trio (cup/saucer/cake plate) - four complete sets
Pattern is unknown - the makers mark may give a clue (see below)
Not sure of the production date but makers mark records indicate this design was used from 1907 until 1920
Twin dainty pink roses with olive green leaves and an olive pattern between each set of twin roses. Base background is white.
Gold guilding to the rim and below the artwork
Some absolutely gorgeous artwork has come out of the Tuscan potteries - this design I would say is far more "laid back" - simple in design and yet appealing.
The makers mark wording is:
TUSCAN CHINA
(Crown with wings logo between these words)
ENGLAND
Colour of this mark is green
Two of the saucers ALSO have this added (in pink)
V (or Y) 235
this does NOT appear to be the potters ID but may well be the pattern
No other pieces have this on them
CONDITION:
All pieces have wear to varying degrees - primarily the spots where you would expect it - the edge of the saucers and cake plates and also the handle of the teacups where the "pinky" would be - these were used a lot.
Now the extent of the wear varies from very light to light - none of them are terrible (no gold remaining) but some wear is obvious.
Only one defect observed - one teacup has had the handle repaired. Its not a bad job but you can see where the china has been glued back together. Slight discolouration to the inside of one teacup (tanin stain most likely)
One plate has a very light crack underneath - see the photograph. NO others have cracks
NO OTHER CRACKS OR CHIPS
Nice set of 4 trio's considering the vintage, these are in pretty good shape after a fair bit of use in the past.
