Salisbury Crown China Works which were located in Longton.
Began operations in 1927 until around 1961 then finally closed down in the early 1970's
Salisbury Bone China
Saucer (#2 smaller and steeper sides)
Measures: 5.5" diameter (138mm)
This saucer is very similar in pattern and design to another Salisbury saucer I have available but this saucer has a smaller diameter and "steeper" sides - imagine taking a relatively flat saucer (saucer #1) and pushing it up around the rim, almost like a shallow bowl - that is what this saucer looks like.
Pattern name is unknown - small bouquet of English garden flowers with foliage
These are hand painted, each floral bouquet is slightly different
Background colour is predominately a pale green
Gold gilding to the outer rim and inner base
Backstamp is printed in a light green
In a vertical oval shape is the words
SALISBURY
BONE CHINA
Within that oval is a crown object
At the base of the backstamp
MADE IN
ENGLAND
The backstamp suggests this saucer was produced in the 1950's, towards the end of the Salisbury potteries operation. The same backstamp was used for a commerative cup/saucer set marking the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953
CONDITION:
NO cracks
NO crazing
NO discolouration
Gold gilding (both the outer rim and inner base area) is in very good condition
Artist mark is clearly visible (gold paint) on the underside (\\) - these were very important to the artist because as they were paid based on "per piece" that they had completed.
