ROYAL DOULTON - Serving Bowl
Circa 1940's
Pattern: D5559
Hand painted
Artwork design features bright coloured, imaginative multi-coloured petal flowers with some foliage. Colouring is pastel like but vibrant and certainly not intended to represent realistic flowers.
Octagonal shaped bowl has horizontally flowing 'ribs' and two "tab style" carry handles.
The rim is painted (not Gold gilded) in Yellow/Brown
Creamy base colouring and the china is opaque, meaning that if held up to a bright light source you cannot see shadows of your fingers through the sides.
This is a small bowl at just 150mm diameter x 35mm depth
Weight: 225g
The Royal Doulton backstamp clearly indicates the year that this left the works is 1942 (15 on the backstamp plus 27)
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
All in a dark Green except the last numerals (15)
Graphic (Lion on top of a crown)

Artists marks are clearly visible just above the backstamp, these were very important to the pottery artist as it was the number of pieces decorated that determined their pay, not how long they took to finish each piece.
CONDITION:
Clean
NO crazing (dry & wet tested and examined - quite frankly amazing after 80+ years)
NO cracks
NO chips
NO fleabites
NO discolouration to the artwork
NO wear is apparent to the primary artwork nor the outer rim Yellow-Brown decoration
A fine example of Royal Doulton tableware from the 1940's in a very art deco style
