In some "circles" Royal Albert was the ONLY bone china to have if you wanted to be part of a 'society' ladies group.
Old Royal Albert is elegant, classy and just the name will impress others.
Well known for their extremely popular Country Roses series, Royal Albert produced much more than Country Roses, this saucer from the Tea Rose series is another of their many designs.
DLAT RATING: 9.5/10 (Darling! Look At This!)
ROYAL ALBERT - Teacup ONLY
Circa 1940's
Size: Demi
Shape: Octagonal sided
The Tea Rose design was produced in three 'styles', this Countess style (upward arching handle) teacup suits the demitasse saucer we have available separately (see the photograph of them together)
Being demitasse (much smaller than a standard teacup) we always called this part of our Royal Albert collection the "Doll" section - very pretty teaset but take just a sip of tea and it's all gone!
Fine Bone China
Translucent, meaning that if held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china
Hand painted and gold gilded
Design: Tea Rose (Reg. 839056)
Yellow rose bud surrounded by foliage and other rose buds some of which are as yet unopened and others partially open. The design extends inside the teacup
The gold gilding is heavily applied to the outer rim with a "splatter" finish, not solid line work. Gilding also applied in two solid rings near and at the base of the teacup. The handle is elaborately decorated with gold gilding, both sides and the back facing section.
TEACUP DIMENSIONS:
Outer rim: 77mm diameter (this is much smaller than a "standard" teacup
Eight sides to the top lip (octagonal)
Height arch handle (distinctive)
Height: 61mm
Weight: 100g
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
The teacup has this backstamp text
(Pink)
ROYAL ALBERT (Arched text following a curve)
(Crown graphic)
BONE CHINA (to each side of the graphic)
ENGLAND
(Lime Green)
"TEA ROSE"
RGD No. 839056
Both the artist and gilder's marks are clearly visible near the backstamp
CONDITION:
You can easily tell this is one of our "show ponies"
It has been sitting in one of the china cabinets for years and the lack of wear attests to this
NO cracks
NO chips
NO signs of glazing breakdown (Dry observation and Wet tested)
NO discolouration
NO wear can be observed to the fine hand crafted artwork, outside and inside
NO unsightly tannin stains or discolouration inside the teacup
Gold gilding is unworn (even partially) everywhere
The teacup shows little (if any) signs of use....understandable when you think about it, pretty to look at but useful (even for High Tea)? We didn't think so
