DLAT RATING: 9/10 (Darling Look At This!)
ROSLYN CHINA - Cake/Side Plate ONLY
Fine Bone China
Bright White base china
Translucent, meaning that if held to a light source you can see the shadow of your fingers through the china
Hand painted
Design shape: Square with depressed corners
Artwork: Blue English Flowers with foliage
Four groups of Blue 5 petal flowers with foliage, a much simplier and smaller painting of a Red rose between each Blue flower.
The Blue flowers appear to be representations of the rare English naturally Blue flower, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides. Hmmm, that's a mouthful so we just called them the Blue flower teaset!
Backstamp on the base (Mushroom colour):
HAND PAINTED
Roslyn
China
MADE IN
ENGLAND
Although hand painted (and most likely hand gilded), there are no characteristic markings by the artist or gilder
Circa late 1940's ~ 1950's (based on the backstamp and the use of hand decoration)
This backstamp layout is common but the text is not so common ... normally the first two words would be FINE BONE but instead, the text HAND PAINTED have been substituted.
UNUSUAL ALERT!
Unlike the majority of English teaware available at this period, the rim edging is Platinum finished - NOT Gold or painted.
DIMENSIONS:
154mm x 154mm
WEIGHT: 160g
CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO chips
NO cracks
NO fleabites
NO crazing observed (both dry and wet tests)
NO damage or discolouration to the artwork
The colours remain bright and vibrant to this day!
I DO see a couple of VERY LIGHT knife scratch marks in the central area of the plate, absolutely normal and not excessive wear - this plate has been used afterall!
Platinum edge decoration is in very good condition with no wear from handling observed at all
