Classy, classic J&G Meakin chinaware
DLAT Rating: 9/10 (Darling, Look At This!)
J & G MEAKIN Teacup ONLY
We cannot put a specific year of manufacture for this teacup but estimate it to be between 1912 (when the SOL trademark was first registered) until the late 1930's
These pieces were part of an extended family estate and we worked out that they are most likely to have purchased these in the mid to late 1930's
Cream background colouring
Pink central rose surrounded by a wide lime green band with a band of gold gilding to the top rim, then an extensive gold gilded patterning and also on the cup handle both sides.
Hand painted - NOT transferware
Backstamp (impressed) reads:
MADE IN
ENGLAND
Artist ID marks on the base of the teacup, these were used to identify who contributed to the production of each piece from the factory - the workers were paid on a "per piece completed" basis, not by the hour! These artist marks show conclusively that these teacups were hand-decorated.
CONDITION:
I have multiple teacups, the description below relates to ALL pieces - they are all in the same condition
Overall, this is an extremely good example of a J & G Meakin teacup from the 1930's - very good condition.
NO cracks
NO fleabites
NO chips
Artwork is clean and undamaged
Gold gilding has light wear around the top rim and on one side of the handle but overall, they are in very nice condition.
Stunning Meakinware, set off very nicely by the lime green banding used
