Classy, classic J&G Meakin chinaware
DLAT Rating: 9/10 (Darling!, Look At This!)
J & G MEAKIN Dinner plate ONLY
9 inch diameter
We cannot put a specific year of manufacture for this dinner plate but estimate it to be between 1912 (when the SOL trademark was first registered) until the late 1930's
These J & G Meakin pieces of fine china were part of an extended family estate and we worked out that they are most likely to have purchased these in the mid to late 1930's
Cream background colouring
Pink central rose surrounded by a wide lime green band with a band of gold gilding to the edge.
Hand painted - NOT transferware
Extensively decorated with a band of patterned gold gilding and then another on the outer edge.
Backstamp reads:
(SOL graphic)
J&G MEAKIN
ENGLAND
Artist ID marks on the base of the side/cake plate, these were used to identify who contributed to the production of each piece from the factory - the workers were paid on a "per piece completed" basis, not by the hour! These artist marks confirm this is a hand-decorated piece of chinaware.
CONDITION:
I have three of these 9" dinner plates available and the description below applies to each of them EXCEPT ** (see below)
Overall, these are both extremely good examples of a J & G Meakin chinaware from the 1930's - very good condition.
ALL PLATES:
NO cracks
NO fleabites
NO chips
Artwork is clean and undamaged
** Two plates have light crazing, normally unnoticed unless held to the sunlight.
Lime Green band shows just a very faint "discolouration/fade" - hard to describe, you can see a very slight inconsistency in the overall lime green colouring
Gold gilding has only the very lightest of wear - very nice condition.
