Classy, classic J & G Meakin chinaware
J & G Meakin first used the SOL backstamp in 1912 and this backstamp looks to be one of the very early SOL graphics
J & G MEAKIN Saucer ONLY
We cannot put a specific year of manufacture for this saucer but estimate it to be between 1912 (when the SOL trademark was first registered) until the late 1930's
These pieces were part of our extended family estate and we worked out that they are most likely to have purchased these in the mid to late 1930's
Cream background colouring
Blue pattern with a band of gold gilding to the central area and the outer edge.
Hand painted - NOT transferware
Backstamp (deep blue) reads:
FLORIDA
REG. SOL 391413
(Sun graphic)
J&G MEAKIN
ENGLAND
Artist ID marks on the base of the saucer, these marks were used to identify who decorated each piece produced by the factory - the workers were paid on a "per piece completed" basis, not by the hour!
