Very traditional 1930's period design (in contrast to Art Deco which was also being produced around this time)
This design is for the "conversatives" nice subdued artwork with a look of "class"
DLAT RATING (Darling, look at this!) 9/10
ALFRED MEAKIN SAUCER
1930's ~ 1940's
Opaque chinaware (you cannot see through the clay)
Cream base colouring overall
Pink rose like flowers (with foliage in green, grey and yellow) in three areas of the saucer, one artwork being the dominant and the other two much smaller.
All artwork decoration is hand painted (very skilled work)
Gold gilding to the outer rim - this gilding is heavily applied and "feathered" at the edges. We are separating the complete dinner set and when these are stacked in the cupboard, the edge gold gilding jumps out at you - stunning tableware!
The backstamp (Green flowing writing) is:
Alfred Meakin
England
Artist ID marks on the base of the saucer, these were used to identify who contributed to the production of each piece from the factory - the workers were paid on a "per piece completed" basis, not by the hour!
COSMETIC CONDITION:
As I have multiple saucers, each has been carefully checked and the description below applies to ALL teacups on offer
NO damage to the artwork
NO cracks
NO discolouration or significant spotting
NO crazing
EVERY saucer does have at least one underside fleabite or glaze imperfection. These are ALL very insignifcant and not noticeable unless observed very closely (from underneath) Most have just one but a couple have up to a maximum of three. Actually look to be a glazing imperfection, as though there was a "bubble" of glaze material when fired.
Gold gilding is excellent on all saucers
