Very traditional 1930's period design (in contrast to Art Deco which was also being produced around this time)
This design is for the "conversatives" nice subdued artwork with a look of "class"
DLAT RATING (Darling, look at this!) 8/10
ALFRED MEAKIN CREAMER JUG
1930's ~ 1940's
Opaque chinaware (you cannot see through the clay)
Cream base colouring overall
Pink rose like flowers (with foliage in green, grey and yellow) on two sides of the jug, one artwork being the dominant and the other two much smaller.
All artwork decoration is hand painted (very skilled work)
Gold gilding to the top rim, including the spout and on the top of the handle - this gilding is heavily applied and "feathered" at the edges.
The backstamp (Green flowing writing) is:
Alfred Meakin
England
Artist ID marks on the base of the jug, these were used to identify who contributed to the production of each piece from the factory - the workers were paid on a "per piece completed" basis, not by the hour!
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NO damage to the artwork
NO cracks
NO discolouration
NO crazing
Gold gilding is in very good condition, only marred by two small "wear" spots on the top guilding - these are very small wear marks.
