Delft ceramics are instantly recognisable by their bright white base with deep blue decoration, most often depicting typically Dutch scenes such as a windmill, this demicup & saucer are in this style of decoration.

DELFT WARE (HOLLAND) - Demi teacup & saucer

Circa early 1980's

Both pieces have been hand decorated

Colbalt Blue artwork colouring on a bright White porcelain

Both the saucer and the teacup have raised areas of porcelain (quite embossed like), this is not ordinary flat porcelain

Artwork is the pretty standard Tower Stage style of Windmill (most commonly used for milling) with foreground scenery, the detailed artwork (particularly on the saucer) is very fine, looking almost like transferware.

MEASUREMENTS:

Saucer: 112mm diameter

Teacup: 60mm diameter mouth x 55mm height - standard hooped handle

BACKSTAMP INFORMATION:

The central 'dot' and all print text is UNDER the glaze and is not a stick on label which had been applied after firing

(Central deep Blue/Black filled circle - solid colour)

Printed in a circular pattern around this circle is the text

Handdecorated. Made in Holland. Delft Blauw.

USED

CLEAN

NO chips

NO cracks

NO discolouration to the White porcelain or the artwork - not even in the central area of the saucer with the depressed circle for the teacup base. Unlike many saucers, the decoration continues within this area which makes it prone to scratch marks but there are none at all.

NO crazing

HOWEVER ... one manufacturing flaw was noticed. Inside the teacup, just below the rim is a small "ridge" raised up from the surrounding porcelain. This ridge is UNDER the glaze and the teacup must have left the works like this, it has not been created later. It is not easily observeable but it exists none-the-less!
