HISTORY:
While travelling up "North" a few years back we came across one of these unique and beautiful art glass plates at the local weekend market.
Nikki had a stall there, supported by her husband, and we were transfixed by Nikki's beautiful and imaginative creations, we had to take one home!
This is kiln fired art glass, with gorgeous realistic colourings that capture the seaside colour and life up there in the Cairns area. Love the use of Gold sprinkling to give a sand effect!
NOTE: I am not a 'great' photographer and found it very difficult to properly get a reasonable depiction of how this plate appears in real life, hope the photographs help ...
Nikki has a Facebook page, take a look HERE
As luck would have it, we now have far too many handcrafted items in our home and this special plate reluctantly now needs to find a new home (Oh I love to be beside the seaside ...)
So, let's get on with the description ...
NIKKI BISHOP (Glass Artist) - Snack Plate
Designed, produced by Nikki up in Cairns, Queensland
Recycled glass 6.5mm thickness
Design is very much in tune with the seaside, colours varying from Light Blues through to Deep Purple with Gold sprinkling throughout, finished with the outline of a Starfish, a Starfish is often present in many of Nikki's works. Actually the Starfish is not simply painted onto the glass but the glass is shaped around the creature, it has texture!
DIMENSIONS:
215mm x 215mm Square
Shallow snack plate measuring approximately 12mm depth
WEIGHT: 700g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO cracks, chips or slivers
NO damage to the artwork
All edges are smooth to the touch, no sharp edges when handling
Nikki's own metallic label is attached to the underside of the plate ... it used to be on the top but we moved it to the underside because it spoilt the overall visual nature of the design in it's original position on the top.
A very nice example of Nikki's glass artistry, uniquely Australian - no need to purchase Murano art glass when such beautiful pieces are made right here in Australia! If you are ever visiting the Cairns area, try to catch up with Nikki and Geoff and you will be awestruck!
