HISTORY:

The potter (J Pudney) is unknown to us, we just liked the vase because of the exterior rough finish!

We never knew who the potter was, having purchased this vase at an arty marketplace a long time ago while travelling in Victoria.

I see some references online to the J being Joan, others saying it is from the 1960's era and another reference indicating that this piece may have come from a "Studio Four" in Moe, Victoria but we cannot establish any of this as fact. We do however get the impression that the potter was quite prolific in their craft as we have seen quite a few pieces from this potter (not the same as this one though) online from time to time.

Anyway, for us, it is about the vase ... most often we purchased pottery because of the unique colouring techniques such as drip glazing, particularly when they feature nice rich earthy colours.

This vase does have the rich earth colouring but of more interest to us was the use of a "rough texture", not your normal nice smooth curves. This vase is very "tactile active!" with small peaks and valleys all around the sides, almost as though the "primedal ooze" is flowing down to the base! It's interesting ...

So, let me tell you what we know ...
