Art for art's sake - no backstamp but powerful, vibrant colours of the sky and earth!
DLAT Rating: 9/10 (Darling, Look At This!)
CERAMIC - Shallow tableware or display dish
168mm diameter x 28mm height (shallow dish)
Weight: 220g (suitable for tableware use or a plate/dish display)
Design is abstract using colouring depicting blue sky, white clouds and variations of the earth (ranging from greens through to light ~ dark browns and black)
Highly glazed topside and underneath but note that the glaze has intentionally been applied heavily on the top to only one 'half' of the design - the remaining half of the design is glazed but not to the same thickness so it reflects light far less. The effect this gives is that light shines off the dish topside on one side more than the other. I have taken two photographs and one clearly shows the high reflectivity of one half ONLY - please look at the photograph(s) to see what I mean)
NO backstamp/maker marking at all
The dish is very symmetrical and beautifully crafted and decorated.
Underneath, the clean white clay used can be seen. Not as bright white as a porcelain paste but very white nonetheless.
We bought this some 25 years ago at a regional 'art and crafts' store, it is very eye catching and the lack of knowing who made it didn't matter to us (although it would have been nice to know!)
