ARTWORK HISTORY:
Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to creative art to chinaware and even classic old (quality) technology!
Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand but over the years we have gathered far too many and new homes must be found for our "excess" artworks.
Back in the late 1970's we purchased (and also paid a "pretty penny") this painting while travelling around Australia in the rural areas, it was a long time ago but I think we bought this painting at a small rural gallery somewhere in Northern NSW.
This original oil is perhaps one of our favourites and it has been hanging for years but the time has come ... we have a number of LARGE artworks and there just isn't enough wall space to do them all justice. This painting drew the 'short straw' and now must find a new home.
TONY SIEPHER:
We like to know about the artists of our artworks but this one is one of our few mysteries. We do not buy art based on who created it, the art is the most important thing to us although it would have been nice to know more about Tony.
One thing though, if he was a 'non-professional' artist, he is damned good!
The skills show in his brush work, his 'eye' for the scene he is capturing and use of colours, light and shadows is truly outstanding.
SUBJECT:
A pretty typical rural scene with the horsemen driving the cattle down the dirt road, magnificent gums to either side with masses of wild flowers on each side of the road.
Actually it's much more than that!
Notice the blurred background, beautiful blue sky, sunlight falling on the gumtree branches and long shadows of the gum across the road? The sun is at a low angle and we believe this is a morning scene, an early start moving the cattle with a mist still hanging around what we suspect are hills in the background.
NOTE: The title is a name we had given the painting! When we purchased it there was no label on the rear so we made up a name for the artwork based on what Tony was showing us, full name could have been "Movin' em on, in paradise" Paradise because these are the sort of scenes we LOVE, those beautiful gums with the finely detailed trunks, the roadside flowers and greenery - just the 'Australian nature' of the scene depicted - we love it and hope that some other family will also.
ANOTHER NOTE: I am not a photographer! These photographs have been taken to the best of my ability in the very early dawn today, the light kept changing which made getting the colours 'true to real life' difficult but I hope that these photographs give an overall impression of what this artwork might look like on your wall!
TONY SIEPHER - Move Em' On (our title, not the artist's)
The artist has not dated this work but we can vaguely remember purchasing this painting back in the late 1970's, it hurt our hip pockets at the time - young without a lot of money but when we saw something we loved "gotta have that!"
Original Oil on board
Late 1970's
Signed in the bottom right corner (Red colouring)
Now the name is a "best guess" TONY is pretty clear but his surname is a little indistinct, we 'think' it is SIEPHER (or it could be SIEPHAR)
I have attempted to enlarge this section of the artwork in this area so you can see his signature, it is quite difficult to figure out the letters in his signature.
The frame is very nice although not spectacular, it 'sets off' the artwork nicely without dominating it.
This frame is all wooden, metal corner splices with metal board U nails (not staples) and we noticed the seal was a bit "how's yer father" after almost 50 years so the seal has been replaced - it is new.
This artwork is of MEDIUM WEIGHT and LARGE - you will need a nice blank feature wall to present this painting effectively! For those who still think in the 'old money', this large artwork is over 3 feet wide x just over 2 feet high. That is large and any new owner will need to carefully consider their available wall space and the average distance from viewing, to hang this in a small room would look ridiculous.
I have been amazed at the number of people who received our other artworks and express surprise about how small or large it is - please do your homework and MAKE SURE it will suit the area you have in mind!
Don't forget, you will need plenty of wall space with good natural lighting (NOT direct though) and if possible, a controlled environment such as air-conditioning to keep the humidity and ambient air temperature constant.
Sounds like a lot of fuss? If you respect your artwork, these are things you should consider.
Artwork measurements: 910mm wide x 600mm high
Frame measurements: 965mm wide x 662mm high
Hanging weight: 3.5Kg
CONDITION:
Artwork is clean*
*Since taking it off the wall, I have given it a nice 'dusting' with a horse hair brush we keep for just this purpose and very carefully checked the art condition.
NO issues with flaking or artwork damage observed
NO issues with artwork discolouration although I noticed on the frame a couple of very light 'dots' which look to be paint spots, possibly when renovating some time ago in past. There are no paint spots on the artwork!
FRAME:
The original nylon hanging cord (with support cord) has been left in place on the rear.
Although this is a large artwork, we will ship anywhere around Australia for FREE, we take great care in packing especially delicate items such as this painting.
Why FREE? Because we have a 'policy' when it comes to any of our items that we do not want expensive shipping costs to deter someone from giving our items a new home or lease of life (music and electronics in particular)
We usually use Australia Post but in the case of a large item such as this artwork, it is more likely that a courier would be used.
Sure it will not be easy to safely pack this artwork and some time will need to be spent on proper packaging but it can be done!
Visits to our home are fine BY APPOINTMENT ONLY and it must be realised, this is our home not a gallery and NO-ONE is free to roam around the house! We take personal safety very seriously and there is NO BROWSING our artworks! If a visitor wishes to nominate works BEFOREHAND so we can get them ready for showing, that's fine but no-one is permitted to just wander around our home! Seems obvious but you would be suprised at the number who want to 'just look around' (Yeah sure, at the security camera's we suspect!)
