HISTORY:
Another of our Australian oil paintings that has been struggling to find suitable wall space with which to hang it! It has been on display for only short periods because to fully appreciate this artwork you need wall space and a bit of distance between the viewer and the painting to fully appreciate the scene.
We are in the process of 'culling' our artworks (and a lot of other items actually) and this is one painting that really belongs in a new home ...

ANNETTE TAYLOR
So who is Annette Taylor? No idea to be truthful! We purchase art because it appeals to us, not because of the name signed on the canvas. I can tell you that Annette lived in a Northern Sydney suburb (her address is on the rear of the frame but has been obscured in the photograph for privacy). I strongly suspect she painted as an amateur, not professionally and her works are 'few and far between' in the art marketplace.
But (for us) this doesn't matter, it's art and we liked it although we had some reservations about the style .... more about that further down in this description.
Annette has signed her artwork lower right-hand corner
The rear of the frame has two areas of labelling, one directly onto the rear of the canvas showing the title, date, artists name and even her signature. Below this is hand written her contact number and the asking price (which we paid 20 years ago) - I have obscured the contact number for privacy reasons.
The second label identifies the frame maker. The custom frame has been very well constructed, right down to the use of gum framers tape (not adhesive tape which can degrade artwork over long periods of time due to acidity) and two felt pads so that when the frame is hung it is 'gentle' on the supporting wall. Annette went to quite a bit of trouble having her art properly framed.
That said, the frame itself isn't something we would have chosen! Nice wooden frame which begins with a metallic gold/black decoration but then something like a blue-wash has been applied which in our opinion spoils the frame, but that is just our view.
If you have looked at ALL the other original paintings we are seeking new homes for, this artwork is different!
We like realism, nice fine detail in our landscapes but departed from our norm when we bought this painting. Instead of our usual realism artworks with their fine detail, some such as the wonderful Michael Taylor's artworks which appear for all the world like a photograph, this artwork is the artist painting what SHE sees, her impressions of the world around her, particularly the colours and lighting.
The colours are bold and overall the work is very much impressionist in style. We like the colouring and the depiction of light that the artist is trying to convey, particularly on the Gnarled gumtree trunk but .... realism is still our personal preference.
Here is a similar gumtree "in real life"
COSMETIC CONDITION:
The artwork is undamaged and clean
The wooden frame is in very good condition
The rear of the frame is also in very good condition, completely sealed and ready to hang with the nylon cord stapled to the frame
