ARTWORK HISTORY:
Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to creative art to chinaware and even classic old (quality) technology!
Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand but over the years we have gathered far too many and new homes must be found for our "excess" artworks.
Back in the 1990's we purchased this painting as it takes us to a place that we have not been too but wish we had! Being city dwellers, we yearn for the bush which is relatively nearby but one day we would like to experience the "real bush", way out in a remote area with that red dirt, sparse landscapes and beautiful sunsets.
This painting took us there, with the lovely old windmill, the grass trees and that incredible sunset.
We aren't that sure this is really a place that the artist visited or he painted from his imagination, it doesn't matter does it? The power of the art is that it can transport you to another place, this painting did that for us.
Although it has been "in the family" for a very long time, this original oil is another of our artworks which sadly must now leave home!
GREG HOLLIS:
Traditional Northern Rivers artist, non professional I think. Greg passed in 2015.
This painting uses a few "props" to promote the outback background (wind mill, grass trees and a rustic bush fence) and I feel that the artist is conveying how the light plays in the scene as the sun sinks on the horizon, the browns and oranges of the earth, the grass tree reflections in the foreground water, the yellows near the centre area and the graduated darkening of the colours as you go higher in the sky. It is easy to miss those reflections in the dam water, look just forward of the two central grass trees.
It is very hard to work out if this scene was from Greg's imagination or a real place. Those grass trees grow throughout Australia and Greg has named this work as simply "Far Place"
GREG HOLLIS - Far Place
1990's period
Original Oil on board
Signed in the bottom right corner (Brown)
Artwork measurements: 595mm wide x 290mm high
Frame measurements: 650mm wide x 345mm high
Frame is wooden, bronze/gold decorated scrolling
CONDITION:
Artwork is clean
NO issues with flaking or artwork damage observed
NO issues with artwork discolouration
One small damage you should be aware of (very indistinct)
If you look at the top edge of the artwork and in from the left a little you can see a "flaw" right at the edge. The nail at the rear which secures the canvas board to the frame did this damage. We sorted out the nail but the artwork damage remains, although difficult to see! If this really bothered you, it could be reframed in a slightly smaller frame I guess but it truly does not detract significantly from the artwork anyway.
Frame decoration is undamaged
The medium weight wooden frame is in very good condition and undamaged.
The original hanging cord has been removed (for ease of shipping) and will need a new one attached (Nylon cord which is stapled on both sides)
Shipping is no problem, we take great care in packing especially delicate items such as this painting.
