ARTWORK HISTORY:
Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to art to chinaware and even classic old (quality) technology!
Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand as we have connections with both countries but over the years our walls have become overcrowded with artworks and although we love just about every painting we have, it's time to hang some new acquisitions and sadly this NZ oil painted by the listed Australian artist Allan Waite must now leave home!
You can see the other Allan Waite artwork that I have HERE
ALLAN WAITE:
1924 ~ 2010
Born in Goulburn but lived much of his life in Sydney.
WWII veteran and after the war he studied art full-time at the National Art School (Sydney) under greats such as Frank Hinder, Herbert Badham and John Godson. He operated a commercial art studio until the 1970's but after suffering increasing hearing loss attributed to his military service, he sold the business but continued to create artworks prolifically until his passing in 2010.
Although many of his paintings are Australian based, Allan travelled, as is apparent by the oils he has painted in New Zealand and I have seen other paintings he created which are based in other South Pacific countries.
His works are very collectable and known to be in many council and government institutions in addition to private collections.
SUBJECT OF THE PAINTING:
Landscape scene set near Queenstown, New Zealand. The Kawarau Gorge has steep, very rugged rock outcrops with the Kawarau River flowing at the base.
Here is another oil painting of the same area but from a different perspective.
Beautiful area to visit but you need to be very tough to live there! It gets extremely cold in Winter (I remember seeing black ice hanging from the trees years ago and in summer it can be stifling hot! Even though this area can be quite hostile for people, it was a very busy area during the Otago Gold Rush back in the period 1861 ~ 1864.
Allan has painted a rock outcrop in the gorge, showing the different light effects at play.
ALLAN WAITE - Kawarau Rocks (Kawarau Gorge, NZ)
Oil on primed canvas (RAW not stretched)
Allan has signed his work on the lower left hand side (Black)
Artwork measurements: 405mm wide x 304mm high
Canvas measurements: 416mm wide x 318mm high
Artwork is clean
I have visually inspected this painting very carefully and I cannot see any flaking, flaws or damage to the artwork.
Mounting a raw canvas can be a challenge, seek the advise of a professional framer! Allan has not left a wide margin for the border, this may present additional concerns when mounting.
Shipping is no problem, we have always stored this painting on a stiff cardboard "base" with a light foam sheeting covering the artwork and then sealed within cellowrap - this is the basic form in which it will be shipped (plus additional packaging of course)
