John Burrowes - Out Back Of Bourke
Oil on canvas
Not behind glass
HISTORY: this painting has been with us for quite a while, I think we picked it up in a regional gallery while travelling around country NSW but not too sure. We love all things Australian and this painting is very nice, great colouring and John seems to be quite an accomplished painter although I cannot find out anything much about him online (except he appears to have lived (or lives) in Leeton NSW.
I think we got this painting in the mid 1980's (guesstimate)
The artwork is undamaged, however slightly (very slighty) dirty looking - it may well be worth going to the effort of restoring it - no paint flakes or anything terrible like that though.
The frame could do with touching up, no damage structurally but a couple of spots where the gold gilding has come off - again a touch up would fix this if it bothered you. Its not terrible but it depends how fastidious you are!
Slight mildew spot looking on the rear, again this is light and probably came from leaning on the wall of the storage units for a couple of years! This has not gone through to the artwork on the front though.
