John Williamson classic "Home Among The Gumtrees"
ARTWORK HISTORY:
Our family is very much into "the Arts" in all it's forms, from music to creative art to chinaware and even classic old (quality) technology!
Our focus has always been landscapes, both Australian and New Zealand but over the years we have gathered far too many and new homes must be found for our "excess" artworks.
Back in the 1980's we purchased this artwork while travelling around rural Queensland. We just love the "Queenslander" style of home which is a architectural style adopted especially for Queensland's tropical climate. Lovely wide, open verandah all around the house and typically with very high ceilings inside.
Two features caught our eye when we saw this artwork ...the homestead and the rich, vibrant colours used by the artist. So often our collection of landscape paintings has the usual gumtrees struggling to survive on a sunburnt country, Greens, Yellows, Brown with a Blue sky but in this work the artist has used a lot of colour in her art to give life to the painting. Notice that the homestead itself is not in pristine conditon and quite "sterile" looking but it is as though it is part of the bush, it blends with the surroundings. In fact we initially wondered if the home had been abandoned but there are no signs of deterioration to the building and the surrounding area is very clean and tidy - it's just rustic! That said, it does seem that the iron sheet roof could do with a lick of paint though ...
This is an original oil on board and has always hung amonst our favourites but the time has come ... we have a number of LARGE artworks and there just isn't enough wall space to do them all justice especially since at our age, focus now tends to be on family or rather the extended family so a lot of family history photographs are taking the place of the artworks.
This artwork must now find a new home.
BEV CAMAMILE (B.J. CAMAMILE):
Although it is the art and the images that the artist is trying to convey that are important to us, it is nice to know about the artists, if we know it! Sometimes we are blessed with actually speaking with the artist and sometimes we just "find" a lovely work of art somewhere in little bush second hand shops - this artwork is from the latter source.
Bev has written her details on the rear of the artwork, for her privacy the contact telephone number and street address have been obscured. I have looked up the street and suburb and there is a good chance that her home is "no more" as there seem to be a number of unit blocks having been built in the area.
She has titled this work "Country Homestead" pretty sensible we thought! Shame we do not know where that homestead is located (or where it was because the artwork was created around 50 years ago, it may no longer exist)
I cannot find out any reliable, confirmed background information about the artist although of course, she lived in Queensland.
But Bev is a very good artist, her skills showing in her brush work, her 'eye' for the scene she is capturing and use of colours, light and shadows is truly impressive.
BEV CAMAMILE - Country Homestead
Circa 1970's - we purchased this artwork back in the early 1980's and it had already been hanging in another home prior. The frame style is so very 1970's and this is why we have always considered this to be from the 1970's era. Unfortunately, although the artist has signed their work (lower right corner), she did not date it.
Original Oil on board
The frame is moulded wood with a metallic Gold splattered finish, this nicely compliments the art.
This artwork is of MEDIUM WEIGHT and SIZE
I have been amazed at the number of people who received our other artworks and express surprise about how small or large it is - please do your homework and MAKE SURE it will suit the wall area and room size you have in mind!
Don't forget, you will need plenty of wall space with good natural lighting (NOT direct sunlight though) and if possible, a controlled environment such as air-conditioning to keep the humidity and ambient air temperature constant.
Artwork measurements: 438mm wide x 336mm high
Frame measurements: 600mm wide x 498mm high
Hanging weight: 2.5Kg
CONDITION:
Artwork is clean*
*Since taking it off the wall, I have given it a nice 'dusting' with a horse hair brush we keep for just this purpose and very carefully checked the art condition.
NO issues with flaking or artwork damage observed
NO issues with artwork discolouration
NO "flyspots" or other insect deposits!
FRAME:
The original brass (with what appears to be a clear plastic coating) hanging wire is fitted in place at the rear - READY TO HANG!
The only "downside" to the frame is that metallic Gold splattered effect, it is fairly delicate and I can see two areas on the frame where this metallic Gold finish has come off the moulded wood. Not terrible but noticeable none-the-less
We will ship this artwork anywhere around Australia at NO SHIPPING COST, we take great care in packing especially delicate items such as this painting.
Why NO SHIPPING COSTS? Because we have a family 'policy' when it comes to any of our items - we do not want expensive shipping costs to deter someone from giving our items a new home or lease of life (this also includes our music, chinaware and electronics - but order $value conditions do apply in all cases)
Like all of our items on this website, these are our personal possessions and we do not trade or buy/sell in the world of art - goodness gracious we have enough already!
