Very Australian colours - drip glazed
We strongly believe this piece to have been created by Sheila Ann, a Sydney potter of the late 1940's through to the mid 1950's
We say "believe" the potter/artist was Sheila because although it is signed, the hand script is very difficult to decipher so we have undertaken a lot of research on the signature and Sheila's other works, how she used colour, shaping of objects such as the leaves and we think we have this one right.
Australian Pottery
Potter/Artist is believed to be Sheila Ann of Sydney
Circa 1950's - Australian potters were prolific around this time, often described as the Golden Age of Australian pottery artworks.
Medium sized shoe/boot with a single flower and leaves
Measures 120mm long from heel to toe and 80mm high at the highest point of the flower petals
Colouring is distinctly earthy Australian with the browns to oranges to green that was often used. The flower is a Crimson/Red moving to Purple towards the centre of the bud with splashes of a light yellow.
The potter certainly was highly skilled, especially in the flower bud creation - very well put together and coloured with great attention to consistency and accuracy - very fine work.
Drip glazed, high lustre
NO cracks
NO discolouration
NO broken petals to the flower especially!!! this is the weakest area of her creation and it is UNDAMAGED.
Very light crazing noticed to the INSIDE of the shoe but it is very light
Superb pottery piece of Australian work from 60+ years ago
