Similar to our other Sheila Ann creation, very Australian colours - drip glazed
There are no doubts about this piece, it is a creation by Sheila Ann, a Sydney potter of the late 1940's through to the mid 1950's
Unlike the other piece of pottery we believe is made by her (only because the signature on that piece is very difficult to read) this piece you can easily read her signing
Australian Pottery
Potter/Artist - Sheila Ann of Sydney
Circa 1950's - Australian potters were prolific around this time, often described as the Golden Age of Australian pottery artworks.
Small shoe/boot with a single flower and leaves
Measures 90mm long from heel to toe and 65mm high at the highest point of the flower petals
Colouring is distinctly earthy Australian with the browns to oranges to green that was often used in Australian pottery, this piece having green as the prominent colour especially when compared to her other piece that we are offering. The flower is a light yellow with some tips of green, again a lot less colourful that the other piece.
Overall, we have always had the impression this is the "smaller, plainer sister" of the two Sheila Ann pieces
Sheila Ann was highly skilled, especially in the flower bud creation - very well put together with great attention to consistency and accuracy - very fine work.
Drip glazed, high lustre
NO cracks
NO discolouration
Just one very very little chip to the tip or end of one petal, not very noticeable (see photographs) but unfortunately it has happened while we were moving it.
Very light crazing noticed to the INSIDE of the shoe but it is very light
Superb pottery piece of Australian work from 60+ years ago
