Cardboard/vinyl promotional record
Plays at 33rpm
Duration approximately 6:40 minutes
At first glance this record appears to be promoting an American product but in fact Uncle Sam was a brand of Australian aerosol deodorant, shampoo and roll on deodorant
from the company Samuel Taylor P/L
The TV advertisements were "very different" and the same goes for this record, the content is quite bizzare really.
The TV commercials (and the photograph on this record) were of Piero von Arnim who made quite a name for himself because of these Uncle Sam commercials, so much so that he had to flee Australia for a while to get some peace and quiet! returning to Australia in 1992.
But Piero was more than an "advertisement actor", he also played Brad in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and later played a German husband in the telemovie, The Alice back in 2004.
The Uncle Sam commercials won the Logie awards for best television commercial in 1975 and 1976.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Visually the record can be described as being in excellent condition, both front and rear
Playback however has some issues due to surface abnormalities, no obvious damage to the surface but a record player will have significant issues playing some parts of this record.
TESTING/PLAYBACK:
Total duration of this comedic craziness is 6:40 minutes and the recording is accompanied by a continuous (every 2 seconds/one rotation) low frequency, low level "thump" caused by surface imperfections.
Surface noise though is very low level.
Place tonearm between the red and blue outer circles
Audio begins with 5-4-3-2-1 with morse code in the background
You need Uncle Sam you need Uncle Sam, lets get together with the stars and stripes band its the perfect connection for fellas and girls and under your arm is on top of the world
Then John Wayne voice actor begins the silliness and a lot of very peculiar comedy, very "Pythonish" which continues without any significant noise issues until 6:15 then there is one small mistrack "racing at r" "racing at r" and finally the recording comes to an end at approximately 6:40 duration
I was left thinking "what was that all about? very strange commercial indeed, must have been a 70's thing.
