A blast from the past, particularly if you lived in the South Island of NZ during the 1960's

KAIKORAI & WOOLSTON Brass Bands - Various (Compilation)

Viking Record Company (NZ)

Cat# V 396-1

New Zealand release

Early 1960's (not indicated on the cover or record but the rear notes mention that the population of New Zealand was "just over" 2 million, this would place the release around the early 1960's (1952 census is 2,000,000 so "just over" 2 million would have been the very early 1960's)

Cover is in good condition, no tears, no seam splits with only light edge wear from handling but on the rear of the cover is handwritten "42/6" in blue ink. Rear notes are "cute" as they describe New Zealand at the time as a country FULL of brass bands, and NZ was apparently known as the land of the Kiwi bird (I remember that saying) and where waitresses do not accept tips! The notes refer to NZ as the British dominion of New Zealand. I don't remember it quite that way, our most common saying was that the sheep outnumbered the human population but no mention of the waitresses! An American perspective I suspect.

This recording was made in California by Fidelity Sound Recordings (they recorded a LOT of brass band music, including brass bands in Australia) and this recording was then released through Viking Record Company in Wellington NZ

New inner plastic sleeve

Vinyl is in good condition, visually inspected under a bright white halogen light source and I can only see one scratch of any significance on Side 2 (Woolston Band) track 1. Just looking at your vinyl is not a great way to judge the condition, particularly this "tough" 60 year old vinyl,  so I then played the album ENTIRELY, every track, and there are no significant issues with surface noise with just some low level surface noise from time to time or click/pops ... even the area around the scratch is not bad at all ... nice songs (if you are into Brass band music)

New outer protective sleeve

SIDE 1 (KAIKORAI BRASS BAND (DUNEDIN)

SIDE 2 (WOOLSTON BRASS BAND (CHRISTCHURCH)

TRACKS: Knight Of The Road, Spanish Gipsy Dance, Punchinello, Waiata Poi, Jack O' Lantern, The 20th Century, The Swallows Serenade, Castell Caerffili
