African hand percussion instrument
Wood (or Tone) block or known as a slitted hand block drum
Handled design
One block of wood (unknown type) used, hand carved with punched decorations
Instrument measures 200mm x 130mm
Weighs 250 gram - about the same as a microphone, easy to manage
Long wooden striking stick, 310mm long
Wooden head on the stick, 33mm diameter
When it is not being used, the stick fits into a hole drilled through the wood block
Nice native rhythm instrument
COSMETIC CONDITION:
No issues with the instrument or stick
Raw wood, just occasionally wiped with a light oil when not in use to prevent any wood cracking
There are no cracks
TESTING:
Well, what can we say? It does the job, easy to hold, play and it kept the players in time although sometimes the dancers holding these would get a bit carried away with their own solo performances!
