Another OLD BOSS (Roland) pedal looking for a new home/muso to enjoy!
In our days of audio post production we had many "sidelines" including a large collection of great analog and some digital pedals. Most have found new owners now but I have finally been able to get my muso friend to come over with his guitar and put this pedal through it's paces. The instruments I had here have also all long gone to new loving homes so I needed to enlist the assistance of my friend to check this baby out.
BOSS - Guitar Effects Pedal
Made in Japan
1985 (ish)
Model: DSD-3
Metallic Silver body
Mid Blue labelling
Black plastic top side BOSS label plate
AC adapter PSA-240 (For Australia) powered or 9V battery (under the footpedal)
The AC power adapter (I have already sold all my adapters) nor battery will NOT be supplied (Australia Post is very adverse to sending items with batteries installed)
FUNCTION: Sampler, Delay with the ability for external triggering
I have included a "snapshot" from the Quick Start manual that gives more details regarding the specifications
Robust, rugged diecast case and foot switch
Diecast bottom plate (with all screws) rubber floor pad
Knobs are plastic (Pull off Push on)
Four user controls, E.LEVEL//F.BACK//DELAY TIME//SAMPLER MODE
SUPPLIED:
BOSS: DSD-3
PRINTED hardcopy of the Quick Start Manual (6 pages and basic but it may help out someone who is unfamilar with the box of tricks although it is a scanned copy and the pictures of the knob settings are quite unclear - best thing to do is to "play" with the settings and you will quickly get a feel for the pedal)
NOT SUPPLIED
NO original box (although of course it will be shipped safely boxed)
NO leads - neither the input, output or trigger leads are supplied (uses standard 1/4" jack plugs)
NO External power pack supplied - quite easy to obtain, although GENUINE BOSS PSA adapters can be difficult to locate - watch out if using a "compatible" they can sometimes cause issues. We stupidly bought one a long time ago that destroyed the pedal so where possible, go for the "real thing" from BOSS/ROLAND
Make absolutely sure that whatever adapter you are using is 9V DC and the centre pin is NEGATIVE - watch out for that!
NO battery supplied or fitted
COSMETIC CONDITION:
Oh my wordee she is an old girl but in pretty good shape for her age!
CLEAN (including the jacks)
NO case damage
NO significant scratches or marks to the casing
NO dents
NO screws missing missing (even the rear plastic head thumbscrew which do have a habit of falling apart after many years of changing the battery - this one is very good)
Battery clip is clean and shiny
Knobs, although plastic, are all in great shape
ALL labelling is clear and has not been affected by wear n tear
Nice footswitch action (spring has a great tension and bounces back when the foot is lifted, easily)
TESTING:
First up, I am a techie from way way back in the mists of time so I enjoy looking at the "build" (it's a techie thing!)
Nice tidy compact layout inside and untouched by any serviceperson since the day it left the factory
I cannot see any signs of the board having been worked on since this was made.
Testing was made using a 9V battery and also my friend's genuine PSA power adapter
As mentioned above, I had to wait for my muso mate to show up after all the Christmas/NYE parties so he can pump some sweet sounds through the DSD-3 -
Tick Tock Tick Tock ... finally he arrived!
Wow! I love this pedal (now reluctant to let it go but I must be practical as I have no need for all this gear these days)
The effects and variation are stunning quite frankly and although 800mS doesn't seem like a long time, you can get these crazy repeat repeat repeat effects.
My muso friend loved it and the sound was nice and clean too!
So, it is working a treat but sadly ... hi ho hi ho, it's off a new home it must go ...
HERE IS A YOUTUBE CLIP I FOUND ONLINE (NOT MY DSD-3)
Note the range of really strange effects possible - a fascinating 6 minutes of weirdness!
