Australian corporate history on a flexidisc
This record was issued to Commonwealth Bank staff ONLY (marked on the rear as confidential) to "rev up the troops", specifically to encourage the staff to accept and grow with the very fast changing banking industry.
7" Flexidisc
Play at 33
Mono recording
Vocal dialogue - non musical
The monologue (along with some light humour) goes through the history of the bank in the early 20th Century, changes during the depression/World Wars and decimal currency - even mentioning the changes from ink wells to biro's and from male tellers in trousers to the employment of women tellers wearing, miniskirts (quite sexist comments are made, by today's standards)
The front cover could have easily caused some concern if used today - did the bank management consider their staff to be apes? - it is safe to assume that wasn't the management's intended message but the graphics on the cover may well have been better chosen.
Interesting from the aspect of cultural changes and community attitudes that have occurred over the years in the Australian banking industry and also purely because it is a flexidisc, these are very difficult to find now because most of them did not survive the ravages of time due to how easily damaged they are.
Handle and play flexidiscs with GREAT CARE
Released in 1970 (this is clearly stated towards the end of the monologue)
The flexidisc is in excellent condition, no kinks or other damage
The recording is clean and easy to hear, no issues with surface noise of any significance.
