Another great, long since forgotten 90's Australian band hailing from Queensland
Like so many other Australian bands, The Tellers were seriously underrated - so often it is being in the right place at the right time to achieve "recognition" especially from the A&R people at the labels
All songs were written by the band, predominantly Damien.
We ran an audio post production facility for many many years and have seen/heard some absolutely stunning Australian talent but for various reasons, they never hit the big time.
This is good solid rock (with a touch of slide in "Dust"), fine fine music and one of our staff's most favoured bands to "pop on" during downtime at work
The band only released two albums and an earlier (1991) demo cassette off their 4 track, this CD album was their debut release.
PRICING NOTE:
Sometimes people are just plain stupid right?
If you go to the "music mecca" discogs, the oracle of all things music, you will see that no-one has ever bought this CD, 7 currently want a copy and just ONE person is trying to ask $500 for it! See one of the screenshots included in this advertisement from Discogs ...
Come on, that's just stupidity! Sure it can be a supply and demand thing but really? $500 for a release that most people have never heard of and perhaps the biggest claim to fame is the prescence of Damien Garvey! Sure the music is very good but ..... is it worth $500? I don't think so and most others would feel the same.
Of course you could tell your friends (and show them) that someone is selling this CD for $500 I guess - but only a nig-nog would pay that sort of mullah!
MEMBERS:
Damien Garvey - Vox (ex Neighbourhood Unit and later went on to act in the television series Rake & Jake Irish)
Mars - Guitars
D. Bee - Bass
John Hippocrates - Drums
THE TELLERS - Flex
Siren Records Ltd (UK)
Some interesting interconnects here, why Siren (T'Pau, Paula Abdul, Cutting Crew etc - all UK acts) and then the pressing, why Disctronics USA and not Melbourne. Mysteries abound with this release
Cat# No catalogue number on the paperwork, no barcode on the rear.
CD hub makes for interesting reading:
DISCTRONICS USA *OP01* 118146-D1-2295-1
1992
CD case, front cover and rear insert are in good condition. Note that on the rear edge nearest the spine the Purple colouring has changed to a Pinkish colour AND the spine is completely Pink now, not Purple - Why? Easy, that is sun fade while the CD was on the massive shelving system we used to have in the studios. This CD did catch a little daylight during the day unfortunately.
SPECIAL NOTE:
The original tray was Black but because of the special nature of this release, we changed it to Purple to colour match with the artwork and it was easier to see if someone was trying to walk out the door with it!
CD media is in good condition, visually inspected under a bright White halogen light source and I can see NO marks or scratches on the media at all, our staff knew what would happen if they carelessly handled this one! For "old times sake" I then played the ENTIRE release, every single track, and there are NO issues with playback at all.
TRACKS: Pot Of Gold, Cathy's Tambourine, That's Enuff, Flowers, Problems, Lost, Plain Jane, Texan Mood, Football, End Of Story/Save Me/Dust
PLAYING NOTE: The last track "End Of Story" finishes at 4:40 - DO NOT STOP YOUR PLAYER! - Let the clock run on (or FF) to 13:38 and you will be greeted by the sound of Thunder and then the song "Save Me" plays until 18:21 and this time no silence and the very very last last song "Dust" begins ...
