Ex our audio post production "back room" hiding in the corner feeling shameful!
Some people collect unofficial releases, I know we did as there was often something just a bit different about a live (dodgy) recording that made them interesting
Some people collect oddities, because of what they are but usually not for any particular musical interest
This release is another of our library oddities, released only in Australia/NZ and the recording quality is "not the best" at times.
It DOES NOT appear to be a bootleg/unofficial release although ....
This album is a compilation of live recordings (some not so well recorded but they are "via the desk") released during the period 1967 ~ 1969 with some lifted straight off vinyl! and a couple of studio tracks. Definitely not properly mastered, the EQ is all over the place - very noticeable on the live recordings.
Some tracks don't even fade out, just an abrupt halt to all audio.
So in summary, yes it is Jimi (unlike the Little Richard/Jimi Hendrix monstrosity I have listed HERE) but for collectors who love Jimi and ALL his music. The live recordings (unknown which concerts and where) are interesting, with a little banter from Jimi to the crowd and the occasional applause thrown in for good measure.
If you like pristine, absolutely squeeky clean recordings (a.k.a sterile) then you would hate this album!
JIMI HENDRIX - Purple Haze
Starburst Music World (Hughes Leisure Group Australia & NZ)
Cat# CD-STB-8738
1991
Australia/NZ release
CD case, front cover and rear inlay are all in very good condition. The front is just a 2 page insert, advertising on the inside front for other Starburst releases. The rear inlay has a track listing, no durations (I have added these below) and NO CREDITS to either the label(s) or the musicians playing with Jimi Hendrix on each track. Shame shame shame ...
CD media is in good condition, visually inspected under a white halogen light source and I can see some light marks and scratches on the media. None of these appear to be very deep but I then played the ENTIRE release, every single track, and there are no issues with playback at all - some of the audio is not so hot but the track playback is fine!
