1983
New Zealand release (white clamshell)
Clam shell is in very good condition, this is a screwed clam shell so if ever there was a need to re-lubricate or change the pad, it is possible (if somewhat fiddly). Shell label is mono printed in black. There was a persons name printed on Side 2 but this has now been obscured. Card insert is in very good condition. Printed is "Marketed by Wea Records P.O Box 2915 Auckland NZ"
Test cassette machine: Nakamichi DR8
Prior to testing, tape was repacked (FF - RW - FF - RW) to ensure even tape loading. This is vital for cassette tapes that have been unplayed for considerable periods of time.
Tape media is in very good visual condition, but the only real way to judge the condition of magnetic tape media is to actually play it, so I have played both sides of this tape.
Audio is full range and bright, full high end and lows. No drop outs. No tape sticking or other transport issues which could indicate dried out lubricant. Head pad is in place and secure.
Beautiful analog sound, just one track seems to have partial issues...
Side A Track 3 (Girlfriend Is Better) beginning at 1:09 - 1:30 the highs drop off and it sounds a little muffled. I inspected the tape but could see nothing (no twists/creasing etc) but sometime in the past this area suffered some oxide or substrate damage.
The remainder of Side A and all of Side B had no issues at all
Terrific album and terrific sound!
Tracks: Burning Down The House, Making Flippy Floppy, Girlfriend Is Better, Slippery People, I Get Wild/Wild Gravity, Swamp, Moon Rocks, Pull Up The Roots, This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
