Please read this description very carefully.
I am not a music collector, my interest in music is professional (from a technical perspective in post production) but at the same time, I do personally love a wide range of music too!
I am sorting through a lot of studio/demo DAT's, 4 track cassettes and a few "plain" consumer cassette tapes that I have been keeping for years.
Although the music on this cassette is pretty damn good, I was absolutely knocked out by the asking price amongst music collectors for this cassette - Janet and her associates are good but really? A$80 for a copy of this EP cassette tape? Seems steep to me ...
As my background is technical, I endeavour to give very thorough, detailed descriptions and this cassette I am offering is no exception ....here we go
Luther Vandross & Janet Jackson (and guests BBD, Ralph Tresvant) - The Best Things In Life Are Free (EP)
A&M - Polydor Records
Cat# 587 401-4
Australian release
1992
Cassette packaging is in good condition, this means the Green outer case is not cracked although it does have some light scuff marks. The inner card sleeve I am not sure whether it is complete.
Normally these sleeves wrap around the cassette but this card sleeve is only a half i.e the front and the spine. I would have thought there would be a rear with a track listing and some credits but not in this case. I could not find photographs online showing me what this should look like ... so I am offering EXACTLY as in the photograph - like a half card sleeve. My personal opinion is that the card wrap has been separated as there was also a release here in Australia on the Perspective label and this did appear to have a complete wrap around cassette sleeve.
The card sleeve front has some rub marks down each side (see photograph)
This Clear cassette clam-shell is fortunately a screw type which means that if ever the user wishes to get "inside" the shell (for future lubrication, changing rollers etc) this is perfectly feasible although you need to be EXTREMELY careful when dismantling a cassette clamshell otherwise you can end up being buring in tape!
Before playing, I have repacked the tape, and played both sides entirely - no issues with the shell or tape transport at all, no "drop outs", full audio highs & lows - very nice playback on every track.
From a music perspective, my personal preference is for the tracks other than "The Best Things In Life Are Free" - nice beat.
My only comment (from an audio production angle) is the sudden ending of the last track - no fade, it just abruptly stops and then a few seconds later the standard toneburst sequence before the tape ends.
Tape media is physically very good, the head pad is secure and tape transport is smooth and without strange noises which might indicate poor lubrication (squeaks etc)
